Free LIVE CEU: The Intersection of Trauma & Autoimmune Diseases

$0.00

In this FREE CEU event discussion, Annie Chen and Lisa Gartner will step outside traditional autism service models to talk about how behavior analysis intersects with trauma, chronic illness, and personal health journeys. Grounded in their authentic lived experiences with medical trauma, infertility, and autoimmune disease, they will examine how physical health conditions function as "unseen setting events" that standard four-function assessments often overlook.

Together, we will discuss how to apply core ABA principles—such as pattern tracking, antecedent management, and self-managed designs—to personal health without crossing ethical boundaries into medical diagnosis or rehabilitation. We will also address workplace inclusion, sharing actionable ways clinical leaders can design individualized, trauma-informed accommodations for employees and supervisees navigating invisible illnesses.

This is a collaborative talk and we will open the floor to questions and comments depending on the number of attendees.

Potential Learning Objectives:

Analyze Trauma and Chronic Illness as Complex Setting Events
Utilize lived experience case examples to evaluate how medical trauma, autoimmune conditions, and physiological pain function as non-traditional setting events within functional behavior conceptualizations.

Differentiate Behavioral Scope from Medical Rehabilitation in Health Settings
Distinguish between behavioral self-management routines and physical/medical scopes of practice (e.g., OT, PT, physician) when applying behavior analysis to personal and client health journeys.

Construct Trauma-Informed Environmental Accommodations
Formulate individualized, trauma-informed workplace accommodations and systemic support strategies for supervisees and practitioners living with invisible chronic health conditions.
